As FIFA undergoes changes, Sporting KC’s Peter Vermes says CONCACAF needs to follow suit (with video)

The fallout from a FIFA corruption scandal reached its peak Tuesday, when president Sepp Blatter tendered his resignation from the world's soccer governing body.

But it isn't the only soccer organization in need of an overhaul, Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes says.

Speaking at his weekly news conference Thursday, Vermes said Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football needs serious restructuring, as well.

CONCACAF, a FIFA confederation, is soccer's governing body in the region. It oversees the Gold Cup and the Champions League, the latter of which MLS teams qualify for every season.

"We have to take care of our own backyard before we start pointing the finger to FIFA, to be honest with you," Vermes said. "CONCACAF is a mess. That piece has to get fixed."
