ABOUT SPORTING KC (6-3-4, 22 points): Forward Dom Dwyer is again listed as questionable as he deals with a left knee injury. ... Defender Ike Opara, who was rested at Vancouver last Saturday, is available. In the 11 games that Opara has started, Sporting has allowed just five goals and lost once. ... Goalkeeper Tim Melia leads MLS with seven shutouts and an 82.0 save percentage. ... Sporting is atop the Western Conference and has the best goal-differential in the West (plus-7).
ABOUT COLORADO (2-8-1, 7 points): It’s been a stunning fall for the Rapids, who last season had the second-most points in MLS and advanced to the Western Conference finals. They have lost seven of their last eight games and have the fewest wins and points in Major League Soccer. ... The Rapids last week welcomed back star defender Axel Sjoberg, who has missed eight games with a hamstring injury. ... Forward Caleb Calvert saw two yellow cards last week and will sit out Saturday with a suspension.
BOTTOM LINE: Sporting beat Colorado 3-1 at home on April 9 and ended the Rapids’ five-game winning streak in the series. The Rapids’ 19-game home unbeaten streak was snapped by Real Salt Lake last month, and Colorado lost at home to Vancouver on May 5. The Rapids no longer seem invincible at home, so here’s guessing Sporting gets its first win at Colorado since 2014.
PREDICTION: Sporting Kansas City 2, Colorado 0.
