The Sporting Kansas City coaching staff will encounter at least one change next season.
Longtime assistant coach John Pascarella has departed the team to take a job as the Des Moines Menace head coach, his new club announced on Thursday. The Menace plays in the Premier Development League.
Pascarella, 50, has primarily worked with the goalkeepers since joining Sporting KC in 2009.
“My time in Kansas City has been a tremendous learning experience, and being part of the process has been fantastic because of all the emotional ties and relationships formed along the way,” Pascarella said in a news release. “I may be leaving the organization, but I will always have a love for the community, the club, the fans, the players and the staff.”

Sporting KC has not yet named a replacement on Peter Vermes’ staff, but the club is expected to announce a promotion.
“After the season, John and I had a discussion around his coaching future,” Vermes said. “He has high aspirations in the coaching realm, and I’m extremely supportive of that.”
