The 2016 MLS Cup will be played during primetime on a Saturday evening for the first time in the league’s 21-year history.

The championship match is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Dec. 10 and will be broadcast on Fox and UniMas, the league announced Tuesday.

The Western and Eastern Conference knockout games will kick off the postseason on Oct. 26 and 27.

Sporting Kansas City is in fifth place in the Western Conference. The top six teams will qualify for the playoffs, with the top two seeds receiving byes to the conference semifinals. In the knockout games, the No. 3 seed will play No. 6, and No. 4 will face No. 5.

The conference semifinals will be a two-leg series on Oct. 30 and Nov. 6 — back-to-back Sundays.

After a week bye, the Western Conference Final, a two-game series, will be played on Nov. 20 and Nov. 27, also two Sundays.
