Chiefs coach Andy Reid said starters will play the first half of Saturday’s preseason game against the Rams on Saturday, with the second team playing in the third quarter and the third team playing in the fourth quarter.
In last week’s preseason opener against the Seahawks, starting quarterback Alex Smith came out after scoring a touchdown on the first series, and most of the starters on both sides were out after the first quarter.
A total of 84 players saw action for the Chiefs.
“The first game, I tell everyone they’re going to play,” Reid said. “Second game, that’s not the case. I’m going to be focusing in, looking for certain things.

“The third game you narrow it down even more.”
The Chiefs play at Chicago on Aug. 27 before concluding the preseason against Green Bay in Arrowhead on Sept. 1.
