The last time the Chiefs made the playoffs, a 2014 wild-card loss to the Indianapolis Colts, a handful of players wore captains’ patches for the first time all season.

On Saturday, the captains did the same. Quarterback Alex Smith, safety Eric Berry, inside linebacker Derrick Johnson and punter Dustin Colquitt sported captains’ patches, just like they did in 2014. Receiver Jeremy Maclin, who was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles that year, and second-year safety Daniel Sorensen also wore patches.

Smith, Berry, Colquitt and Johnson were chosen game captains for the third time this season. Maclin and Sorensen are now two-time captains.
