Former NFL quarterback and CBS analyst Phil Simms, who will call Thursday night’s Chiefs-Raiders game on NFL Network (7:25 p.m. with free simulcast on KSHB, Ch. 41), offered some thoughts on the Chiefs, 7-3, and Oakland, 0-10.
“The Kansas City Chiefs are for real,” Simms said. “Their defense, which let them down at the end of last year, won’t let them down this year because they have been so consistent and so dominating at times this year. That will continue.
“And on offense, Andy Reid has done an unbelievable job with their offense, making it deceptive and controlling the tempo of the game.”
As for the Raiders, Simms said: “Talent is still an issue with the Oakland Raiders. But there are some things to look forward to … (rookie linebacker) Khalil Mack is playing exceptional, much better than his numbers indicate. And, of course, they have a rookie quarterback in Derek Carr who shows promise. He makes a couple plays in every game that shows you he can be a top-flight quarterback in the NFL.

“There is no doubt about it, the Raiders will have to play extremely well to keep this game close.”
