Thursday was a tough night for Chiefs cornerback Jamell Fleming. According to Pro Football Focus, Broncos QB Peyton Manning threw at Fleming 13 times, completing nine passes for 123 yards and a touchdown.
The touchdown was the 19-yarder to Emmanuel Sanders, whose stutter step made Fleming hesitate just enough to get separation for the reception. The Broncos won 31-24.
Keep in mind, Fleming is the team’s third cornerback, and Manning took advantage. The only other available corner was Marcus Cooper, who had had bad performances previously against Manning and the Broncos.
The team’s top cornerback, Sean Smith, was serving the second of his three-game suspension to open the season. After the Sept. 28 game at Green Bay, Smith will return the following weekend when the Chiefs play at Cincinnati.

As for the game-tying touchdown, Chiefs coach Andy Reid tipped his cap to the Broncos offense.
“Sanders made a nice play and Peyton made a nice play,” Reid said.
