Craigslist ad offers diamond wedding ring for Chiefs-Broncos tickets

Someone out there is desperate to see the Kansas City Chiefs play the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead on Dec. 1, so desperate, apparently, that they’ll trade their wedding ring for tickets.

An ad popped up on Craigslist Friday with this offer: “Will trade diamond wedding ring for Chiefs vs Broncos Tickets.”

“I have a nice diamond ring and wedding band set that was appraised at $3100 that I want to trade for Kansas City Chief tickets to the 12/1 game,” writes the poster, who hails from Overland Park.

The ring is nothing to sneeze at, a round brilliant-cut diamond – .45 carats – set in a white gold setting that contains 20 more small round diamonds weighing .50 carats.

The matching wedding band has 10 more small diamonds with a weight of .25 carats.

Oh, and it’s size 7.

The owner will make a trade, but “will only entertain offers in lower or club level.”

Sounds like a deal to us.

But does the story of the rings come with the trade? It might or might not, so here it is - a tale that sounds like O. Henry's "The Gift of the Magi."

The rings belong to an Overland Park woman who is trying to surprise her husband for his 40th birthday.

"He just mentioned that the game against the Broncos was going to be the best game of the year," says the woman, who asked not to be identified. "We can't afford what the tickets are going for so the only option was to barter my ring."
