Chiefs coach Dave Toub on Monday explained the team’s process of settling on long snapper James Winchester over Andrew East.
“We did our due diligence with it,” Toub said. “We really like both of those guys, we all think that both of them could be an NFL-caliber guy. We just felt like Winchester just had the edge at the end.”
Toub said Winchester, 26, who is listed at 6 feet 3 and 240 pounds, has all the tools. He has not appeared in a regular-season game but he did spend some time with the Philadelphia Eagles.
“He’s got a little bit more velocity on the ball (than East) — very little — but it makes a difference when Colquitt can get that ball in his hand and he doesn’t have to rush,” Toub said.
