Been getting some suggestions from fans that the Chiefs should attempt to trade Branden Albert to a tackle-needy team like Green Bay or Miami. It’s a surprising notion and one the Chiefs should dismiss immediately if it ever pops into their heads. Here’s why:
The Chiefs are trying to win this year and dealing Albert would weaken their roster immeasurably. Albert’s not only the most proven offensive lineman the Chiefs have but maybe the only proven lineman. Eric Fisher, Jeff Allen, Rodney Hudson and Jon Asmaoah are still trying to establish themselves in the NFL. Scary to think what the Chiefs might have there without Albert, at least early in the season.

Fisher will probably become at the least a solid NFL tackle but that day hasn’t come. Let him prove himself before letting him play left tackle. If he develops quickly, the worst the Chiefs have is two good tackles, a necessity in the pass-first offense of Andy Reid.
At the end of the season, the Chiefs will have the luxury of knowing just how good Fisher is. That’s a better time to consider letting Albert go.
