As was the case last week when the Chiefs played Arizona, Eric Berry’s return to football crossed team boundaries. Before Friday’s preseason game against Seattle, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll shared an embrace with Berry.
The Chiefs ran a special message on the video board welcoming Berry back, highlighted by his vocal leadership in the pregame, and he raised arm in triumph.
Afterwards, Berry, who has recovered from Hodgkin lymphoma, said he couldn’t wait to get back to Arrowhead Stadium for the first time since about the middle of last season.
“I made sure to have my windows down,” as he drove into the parking lot on Friday. Why? He wanted to smell the barbecue.
Berry played with the second-team defense but didn’t record a tackle in the Chiefs’ 14-13 victory.
