The Chiefs starters will play the first quarter on Saturday in the preseason opener at Arizona, and then the parade of reserves begins.

Andy Reid said the second team will play the second quarter and half the third, with the third team taking the final 1 1/2 quarters.

That’s consistent with last season’s preseason opener, when quarterback Alex Smith and the first team played the first quarter, Chase Daniel and second team played the second. Tyler Bray played in the third quarter and part of the fourth, and Aaron Murray finished.

The same quarterbacks are back, but Bray is out because of a torn ACL.

Finding rhythm is the objective for Smith.

“Hopefully sustain some drives and score some points,” Smith said. “That’s what you’re looking for as the first group. Go out there, let’s move some chains, get into some rhythm.”
