You might bump into Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson at Chiefs training camp this summer, or at one of their games this fall.
That’s because her fiancee, Chiefs rookie long snapper Andrew East, got down on one knee and popped the question before the Chicago Cubs’ game against the Phillies on Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field.
Johnson, 23, was at Wrigley to throw out the first pitch with fellow Team USA gymnastics veteran Alicia Sacramone. East, also 23, proposed to her right on the field.
She said yes.
An Indianapolis native, East played at Vanderbilt and was signed by the Chiefs as a free agent after the NFL Draft. He is hoping to earn a spot on the regular-season roster with a strong showing once camp starts next week in St. Joepeh.
The Cubs helped break the news of the couple’s engagement on their official Twitter account with this message: “Congrats to @ShawnJohnson and @AndrewDEast on their engagement!”
Johnson, a year-old native of West Des Moines, Iowa, earned an Olympic gold medal on the balance beam in 2008 at Beijing. She also garnered silver medals in the all-around, floor exercise and team competitions.
The next year, Johnson was crowned a “Dancing with the Stars” champion alongside Mark Ballas.
