Was it really just 14 months ago that Peter O'Brien fever swept through Kansas City?
OK, maybe not a fever, but O'Brien's home-run prowess for the Royals at spring training certainly did raise the temperature of some fans.
O'Brien clubbed a team-best seven home runs in Cactus League play, but he didn't break camp with the Royals and was designated for assignment in May 2017. O'Brien bounced from the Reds organization to the Rangers in a matter of weeks before being cut by Texas and claimed by the Dodgers on June 18.
A first baseman, O'Brien has spent this season with the Dodgers' Class AA affiliate in Tulsa, Okla., and he hit a monster home run against Northwest Arkansas, which is the Royals' affiliate. The Drillers said the homer was measured at 483 feet and had an exit velocity of 117 mph.
The home run was a no-doubter. The Drillers updated to say it had an exit velocity of a mere 112 mph.
