If any story deserved the facepalm emoji, it would be this one.

The St. Louis Cardinals tweeted about a giveaway planned for next week in which fans would receive a replica 1967 World Series ring. What could go wrong, right?

This was the tweet that has since been deleted:

Oh, boy. What a dumb message: Hey guys, you love baseball and your girl loves jewelry. Yeah, that’s a blanket statement that’s wrong on a lot of levels. I know women who love baseball. I know women who aren’t into jewelry. I know men who don’t like baseball.

The Washington Post reported that the tweet “included a short video that shows a woman gazing at the replica ring while wearing it, much in the way some women gaze at their engagement rings.”

Although the tweet was deleted, there were people who were upset (here is a sampling).
