Take that Cameron Crazies. And Hilton Magic? Pfffft. And don’t even think about the eRUPPtion Zone.

No, a USA Today writer ranked the eight best student sections in college basketball, and No. 1 went to KU. That should make the Jayhawks fans happy.

There’s just one thing about that ranking: the writer is a Kansas grad. That’s kind of a big caveat, no?*

*As for caveats, I am an Iowa State graduate and don’t think Hilton matches up to Allen Fieldhouse

Here is part of what Andrew Joseph wrote after confessing that he had graduated from KU:

Students camp out for every home game starting a week before the game, even the exhibition games. The student section is located on both baselines and extend to the ceiling. These students originated the holding of newspapers during away introductions and pass on an actual technique for making newspaper confetti. Really, there’s a skill to it. Cameron may have the showmanship, but Kansas has the noise, the Rock Chalk Chant and a 211-9 record since (coach Bill) Self’s arrival.

You can read more about what Joseph wrote KU fans and the other seven teams in these rankings here.
