Have you ever seen this before?
A punt that was downed after it had traveled 2 yards backward? Yep, that was the result of a Nebraska punt during Saturday’s 24-17 win over Minnesota.
I think we can all agree on two things: Caleb Lightbourn would like to have another crack at that punt and the Cornhuskers would have been better off just running the ball on fourth down.
It’s never good when you’re the punter and you have a legitimate chance to down your own punt.

After the game, Lightbourn talked with the Omaha World-Herald about the punt.
“I don’t think there’s ever been a punt like that, like ever,” Lightbourn told the paper. “So you kind of look at it and be like, ‘Wow, that was horrible.’ Personally the outcome wasn’t amazing for me, but as a team we got the win, so that’s what’s important.”
I don’t think they keep records for this sort of thing, so I don’t know the shortest punt ever. But I found this punt that went for negative-4 yards.
