Former K-State linebacker Kirby Hocutt joins College Football playoff committee

Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt, a former linebacker and captain at Kansas State, is the newest member of the College Football Playoff committee.

Hocutt was nominated by Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby to replace Oliver Luck, the West Virginia athletic director who has taken a position with the NCAA as executive vice president for regulatory affairs.

Before becoming Tech’s athletic director in 2011, Hocutt had worked in athletic administration at Oklahoma, Ohio University, Miami, Fla., and the NCAA.

Hocutt took his recruiting visit to Kansas State in 1989, the first season of Wildcats coach Bill Snyder. Hocutt became a starter as a junior in 1993, the year K-State won its first bowl game, and led the team in tackles with 135.
