Quarterback Baker Mayfield has one season remaining in an Oklahoma uniform.
The Big 12 voted down a rule proposal Wednesday that would’ve made Mayfield eligible for 2017 by allowing walk-ons to transfer within the Big 12 without losing a year of eligibility.
Mayfield started his career at Texas Tech in 2013, transferred to Oklahoma after the season and sat out in 2014. He started last season and led the Sooners to a Big 12 championship and spot in the College Football Playoff. Mayfield finished fourth in the Heisman race.
Big 12 faculty representatives voted 5-5, and a majority of six votes were needed for the proposal to pass.
