Missouri Western’s LaQuinta Jefferson leads all-MIAA women’s basketball team

Missouri Western senior guard LaQuinta Jefferson was chosen women’s basketball player of the year in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association on Monday.

Jefferson, who led the MIAA in scoring at 21.8 points per game, was also a unanimous all-MIAA first-team selection, joining Emporia State junior guard Kelly Moten, Pittsburg State sophomore guard Mikaela Burgess, Missouri Southern senior guard/forward Sharese Jones and Central Missouri senior guard Shelby Winkelmann.

Moten also was selected to the MIAA all-defensive team, where she was joined by Pittsburg State senior center Kylie Gafford, an Olathe East graduate.

Pittsburg State’s Lane Lord and Fort Hays State’s Tony Hobson shared the MIAA coach of the year award.
