Here are five years in which KU’s streak of 12 consecutive Big 12 regular-season championships either won or shared nearly ended.

When KU played its season finale at Kansas State, it needed a victory to guarantee at least a share of a second straight conference title. The Jayhawks came through, defeating the Wildcats, 66-52, and earning a tie with Texas at 13-3 in a year they started the conference slate 1-2. The Longhorns were the top seed in the Big 12 Tournament.

Once again needing a road win in its final game, KU picked up a 72-55 victory at Texas A&M. The Jayhawks, who finished 13-3, were the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 Tournament as Texas took the top spot with an identical conference record.

Following a national championship, coach Bill Self appeared to be in full rebuild mode after the early-entry departures of Darrell Arthur, Brandon Rush and Mario Chalmers. The 2008-09 KU team fell out of the national rankings following an 11-4 non-conference record, but it rebounded by winning its first eight Big 12 games before finishing with a 14-2 league mark — one game better than second-place Oklahoma.

Texas threatened to run away with the Big 12, starting conference play with an 11-0 record (which included a head-to-head win over KU at Allen Fieldhouse) that gave it a two-game lead with five to play. The Longhorns faltered down the stretch, though, dropping three of their final five. With help from a late winning streak, KU claimed the title outright with a 14-2 league record.

A few hours before KU's final regular-season game, Kansas State lost a road game to Oklahoma State to ensure the Jayhawks a share of the Big 12 title with the Wildcats. That was fortunate for KU, as it was blown out at Baylor, 81-58, in what was the second-worst loss of Self's tenure.
