Rockhurst men reach third round of NCAA Division II soccer tourney

The Rockhurst men’s soccer team advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division II tournament Saturday with a 3-0 home win over Cedarville (Ohio).

The Hawks, 17-1-2, and the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region, will face No. 2 seed Northwood (Mich.) at 7 p.m. Friday at Rockhurst’s Bourke Field.

Kaleb Jackson (37th minute), Paul Dean (63rd) and Adam Michel (89th) scored for the Hawks. Goalkeeper Logan Feldmann made two saves in his sixth consecutive shutout.

In the Central Region, No. 2 seed Fort Hays State will play No. 1 seed Upper Iowa on Thursday in a third-round match. The Midwest and Central third-round winners will meet in the quarterfinals.

Division II women

Top-seeded Central Missouri, 19-2-0, faces No. 4 Minot State (N.D.), 16-4-1, in a Central Region second-round match at noon Sunday in Warrensburg. The winner will play either Augustana (S.D) or Minnesota State-Mankato in the third round.

Heart of America tournament

The Missouri Valley men beat host Baker 2-1 on a golden goal by Rafael Alcaraz with 35 seconds left in overtime Friday, winning the Heart of America Athletic Conference championship.

Benedictine played host to Baker for the Heart women’s championship on Saturday night.

NAIA Tournament selections will be announced at 10 a.m. and noon Monday for the women and men.
