K-State quarterback Jake Waters is one of 20 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award, given annually to the top player in college football as voted on by journalists, NCAA coaches and members of the Maxwell Club.

Waters is the third Wildcat to be selected as a semifinalist; Michael Bishop was picked in 1998, and Collin Klein was chosen in 2012.

Waters threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns in No. 9 K-State’s 48-14 win over Oklahoma State on Saturday.

Among Big 12 players, TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin, Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty and West Virginia receiver Kevin White were selected.

SEC quarterbacks Nick Marshall (Auburn), Dak Prescott (Mississippi State), Bo Wallace (Ole Miss) and wide receiver Amari Cooper (Alabama) were also chosen as semifinalists.

The winner will be announced on ESPN on Dec. 11.

Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron won the award last year.
