On Monday night, the Kansas basketball team will begin its exhibition season against Washburn at Allen Fieldhouse.

So Kansas’ Bill Self did what any self-respecting coach would do just four days before the first game. He showed up at the Underground — one of KU’s on-campus food courts — and started buying everybody lunch.

The stunt/kind gesture/grub sesh began in the early afternoon hours on Thursday. Self, who attended game seven of the World Series on Wednesday night, joined a few members of his KU staff and started picking up the tab for some unsuspecting KU students. (Free Chick-fil-A and Pizza Hut!)

The news quickly spread across campus, and the Underground swelled with people, proving at least one thing about college students: They love free food.
