UMKC men’s basketball announced its 2012-13 schedule Thursday, highlighted by a visit from Iowa State on Dec. 19 at Municipal Auditorium. The Kangaroos will play seven NCAA Tournament teams from last season, including Final Four participants Louisville and Ohio State, as well as Kansas State.
“We have an extremely challenging nonconference schedule this year.” UMKC coach Matt Brown said.
The Iowa State game will be UMKC’s the first against a BCS-level school in Kansas City since the Kangaroos upset Kansas State 93-52 on Dec. 30, 2003.
UMKC opens the regular season Nov. 9 at Seton Hall as part of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off. The home opener is Nov. 13 against Division II Lincoln at Swinney Recreation Center. The schedule also features some new 4:05 p.m. Saturday tipoffs.
The Summit League has a new look this season with defending regular-season champion Oral Roberts moved to the Southland Conference and Southern Utah in the Big Sky Conference. Nebraska-Omaha joins the Summit but will be ineligible for postseason play this season because of NCAA transition rules.
