West Virginia senior quarterback Geno Smith and Texas senior defensive end Alex Okafor are the preseason offensive and defensive players of the year in the all-Big 12 media poll released today.
Oklahoma freshman wide receiver Trey Metoyer was chosen preseason newcomer of the year. The Sooners led the way with five players on the preseason all-Big 12 team, with Metoyer joining receiver Kenny Stills, offensive linemen Gabe Ikard and Ben Habern, defensive lineman Jamarkus McFarland and defensive back Tony Jefferson.
Kansas State had three players on the preseason all-Big 12 team: kick returner Tyler Lockett, linebacker Arthur Brown and defensive back Nigel Malone. Kansas had no players chosen.
