As trade rumors continue to swirl, former Kansas star Andrew Wiggins will be back in the Kansas City area this weekend, playing host alongside former coach Bill Self at a youth basketball camp at Shawnee Mission West.
The Bill Self Basketball ProCamp, for grades first through 12th, will run on Saturday and Sunday. The camp is sold out. For details on how to secure a spot on the waiting list, go here.
Wiggins, of course, has been the subject of rampant trade speculation after being selected No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Draft in late June. Wiggins could be headed to the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of a deal for power forward Kevin Love, who would join forces with LeBron James after his return to Cleveland.
“I just want to play for a team that wants me. So whichever team wants me, I’ll play for,” Wiggins said in an ESPN interview on Sunday.
Wiggins signed his rookie contract with Cleveland on June 24, and NBA rules prohibit a trade for 30 days after a rookie signs. Last week, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that a trade involving Love could happen on Aug. 23 or 24, fitting with Wiggins’ 30-day timeline.
