Northwest Missouri State is expected to pick up where it left off last season.

The Bearcats were the choice of media and league coaches to repeat as MIAA champion.

Pittsburg State was the second choice in both polls.

Northwest is coming off an NCAA Division II championship season, and if the Bearcats or MIAA team reach the final this year, they’ll compete close to home. The championship game will be played at Sporting Park, home of Sporting KC, on Dec. 20. It will be the first football game played in the soccer stadium.

MIAA teams will play an 11-game round-robin schedule this season for the first time. Southwest Baptist and Lincoln University remain members of the MIAA for all other sports but will complete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference along with William Jewell, Truman State and Missouri S&T.
