Quick-hits preview: Sporting Kansas City at LA Galaxy
SPORTING KANSAS CITY AT LA GALAXY
WHEN/WHERE: 9:30 p.m. Saturday; at StubHub Center, Carson, Calif.
TV/RADIO: Fox Sports KC; WHB (810 AM)
ABOUT SPORTING KC (7-4-6, 27 points): The road has been treacherous for Sporting Kansas City’s offense. The club has scored only three goals in nine away matches. ... On the flip side, it still garnered a result in five of those nine. ... Sporting KC has allowed only 11 goals in 17 total games, an average of 0.65 per game, an MLS record-setting pace. Goalkeeper Tim Melia owns nine shutouts, best in the league.
ABOUT LA GALAXY (6-5-4, 22 points): In former Kansas City Wizards coach Curt Onalfo’s first season leading the Galaxy, the club has featured unusual road and home splits. The Galaxy is the best road team in MLS but the league’s worst home team. It has won just once at the StubHub Center.
BOTTOM LINE: There’s some urgency for Sporting KC to separate itself from the pack in the West, especially considering what’s on the horizon. Matt Besler, Graham Zusi and/or Dom Dwyer could receive a call up to the United States men’s national team for the Gold Cup, leaving Sporting KC without some key players next month.
PREDICTION: LA Galaxy 1, Sporting KC 1
