Sporting Kansas City’s Matt Besler and Graham Zusi are in the mix to appear in the United States men’s national team’s top competition for 2016.
They were selected as part of the U.S. preliminary roster for Copa America Centenario, a competition that begins June 3. The preliminary roster includes 40 players, which coach Jurgen Klinsmann must whittle down to 23 players by May 20.
The U.S. will open its training for the tournament on May 16, with a three-game warmup for the tournament to conclude May 28 at Children’s Mercy Park.
The Americans open their Copa America schedule against Colombia on June 3 in Santa Clara, Calif.
Zusi and Besler have both appeared in World Cup qualifying matches for the U.S. this year.
