At long last, the rainbow jerseys are back.
For one night only.
When Sporting Kansas City celebrates the 20th anniversary of its first match during a Major League Soccer home game on April 13, it will pay homage to its Kansas City Wiz history.
The club will wear the rainbow-designed kits — or lifesaver uniforms, if you preferred that description — during warmups before the match against Colorado. And during the game, Sporting will don its alternate white kits with the retro-colored design painted into the numbers on the jerseys.

Love ’em or hate ’em, they were certainly one of a kind. The Wiz wore similarly-designed jerseys in their first MLS season. The match next week marks the exact 20th anniversary of their first game — defeating the same Colorado Rapids, 3-0, at Arrowhead Stadium.
The warmup jerseys will be available for purchase in the stadium during the match, along with limited edition 20th anniversary scarves and T-shirts.
As part of the commemoration, the club will recognize its 20-year season-ticket holders and 20-year team employees.
The Papa John’s Magic Minutes promotion will also return for the match. If Sporting Kansas City scores during the 74th-76th minutes, Papa John’s will give away a free select side or dessert the day after the game. The first 10,000 fans to arrive for the match will receive a retro jersey koozie.
Sporting KC has been running a fan vote for the club’s all-time Best XI, which will be released on the night of the game.
