Sporting Kansas City unveiled its new secondary jerseys Sunday with a commercial during the Super Bowl. The halftime advertisement also introduced the team’s “All for the City” slogan for the 2016 season.
The new kits feature a dark indigo background with tonal blue horizontal stripes. The names and numbers will be printed in metallic silver, with two stars above the Sporting KC crest representing MLS Cup championships in 2000 and 2013.
“Our two jerseys that are carrying over from last year are very fashion-forward, so we needed the new secondary kit to have a strong design sense,” said John Moncke, Sporting Kansas City’s vice president of stadium and brand revenue. “We started designing this jersey right after the launch of the previous secondary kit in March 2014, and we knew we wanted to create something influenced by the original stripes.”
The team will still use its primary jersey — a windowpane design — and the white argyle third kit. Both were introduced last season.
