Sporting Kansas City signed midfielder James Marcelin, a member of the Haitian men’s national team who most recently played for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the North American Soccer League.
The club announced the move Tuesday.
Marcelin, 28, made 39 appearances in Major League Soccer — split between Portland and FC Dallas — across the 2011 and 2012 seasons. He made 15 appearances with Fort Lauderdale after joining the club in July and started the league’s championship match last month, which it lost to San Antonio.
Marcelin joined the Haitian national team for its World Cup qualifying in the past two cycles and was the team’s youngest player at the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
