After a week in which Sporting Kansas City won its third major trophy in four seasons, it added an individual accomplishment, as well.
Goalkeeper Tim Melia was named the MLS player of the week Tuesday, an honor bestowed after he made seven saves in the U.S. Open Cup championship victory Wednesday against Philadelphia and then followed it with a shutout win against Portland over the weekend.
In his first season as an MLS starter, Melia is 14-6-5 across all competitions for Sporting KC this season.
