The next stop in Sporting Kansas City’s path to the U.S. Open Cup will return the club to where its run concluded in 2016.

A day after rolling past Minnesota United FC in the fourth round of the 2017 Open Cup, Sporting KC learned it will travel to Houston for the fifth round. The match will be played either June 27 or June 28.

If Sporting KC wins the match and advances to the quarterfinals, it will play host to the winner of the match between defending-champion FC Dallas and Colorado at Children’s Mercy Park.

Houston eliminated Sporting KC in last year’s Open Cup with a 3-1 result.

U.S. Soccer conducted the draw via Facebook on Thursday morning.

Sporting Kansas City has won the Open Cup tournament three times — in 2004, 2012 and 2015.
