Sporting Kansas City locked up the final piece of its first-round draft class Wednesday, when it announced the signing of defender Amadou Dia, the 20th overall selection in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.
Dia, 21, is primarily a right back who figures to add depth in the short-term and perhaps more critical minutes over the long-term.
“Amadou is a player (who) we feel has a very good future,” Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes said in a news release. “He’s got a great instinct around the game. For him, like most players when they come, it will be about taking advantage of the opportunities when he gets them. He has a really good mentality, is extremely coachable, and I think he has a huge upside if he continues on this path.”
Connor Hallisey and Saad Abdul-Salaam, the club’s initial two first-round picks, entered the draft after signing contracts with the league.
