FC Kansas City signed first-round draft pick Katie Bowen of New Zealand, pending receipt of her P-1 Visa and International Tranfser Certificate. Bowen will occupy an international roster spot.
“Katie is a highly talented young versatile player. She is one of the most experienced 21-year-old players in the world and we are excited to add her to our team,” Director of Soccer Operations Huw Williams said in a statement. “She enjoyed a standout career at UNC and is a budding star at the international level. We look forward to her continued development as part of our FCKC family.”
Bowen, who started 19 of North Carolina’s 20 games this season, was also a member of New Zealand’s 2011 and 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup teams. She was the team’s 16th in the National Women’s Soccer League College Draft and is the first player to have signed.
