FC Kansas City’s hopes of making the NWSL playoffs ended Saturday afternoon in a 0-0 draw against the Chicago Red Stars at Swope Soccer Village.
FCKC goalie Nicole Barnhart made three saves in the game, including one in the 55th minute in which she came up with a point-blank save on Chicago forward Sofia Huerta.
The first shot on goal for either side came in the 47th minute after a cross by Blues defender Sydney Miramontez was misplayed and landed at the feet of forward Shea Groom. But Chicago goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher moved across the goalmouth and made the save on Groom’s shot.
FCKC had one last chance at the end of the match to put one away when midfielder Desiree Scott chipped the ball to Sydney Leroux, but her shot went just over the crossbar.
