Four FC Kansas City players have been selected to represent the United States in the Women’s World Cup soccer tournament later this year in Canada.
Lauren Holiday, Becky Sauerbrunn, Heather O’Reilly and Amy Rodriguez were chosen to be on the team by coach Jill Ellis. She contacted players by phone Friday and Saturday with the news.
“There were times that I didn’t think I would make it,” Rodriguez said, “so I am truly honored and grateful to represent the U.S. this summer.”
The roster features three goalkeepers, eight defenders, seven midfielders and five forwards.
It must be submitted to FIFA by May 25 which is the deadline for all teams to submit their final squads.. The Americans open against Australia on June 8.
