The Kansas City Comets made it out of town ahead of the snow and enjoyed themselves in Florida on Saturday.
The Comets traveled to Lakeland, Fla., for their first match against the Florida Tropics, and Leo Gibson and Bryan Perez each scored two goals in leading Kansas City to a 6-4 victory.
Gibson and Perez both scored unassisted goals in the first quarter. Ramone Palmer added another goal for the Comets early in the second quarter before the Tropics got on the board with a goal by Ricardo Diegues.
Florida’s Victor Rojas scored the only goal of the third period.
Gibson scored again in the fourth quarter, but Diegues made it 4-3 with his second goal of the game.
The Tropics went to a sixth attacker, and Stefan Stokic scored to make it 5-3 Comets. Victor Parreiras brought Florida back within one, but Perez finished the scoring with 20 seconds left.
The victory was the Comets’ first on the road this season and their second against a team in the MASL’s Eastern Division.
The Comets next game will be against the Tropics at 7:35 p.m. Dec. 30 at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
