The final local television ratings numbers are in and the Royals were a smash.

Royals games on Fox Sports Kansas City in 2015 averaged an all-time best 12.3 rating — 114,000 households — in the Kansas City market, according to Nielsen.

That’s the highest local TV rating in Royals’ history and the highest in baseball for a regional sports network since the Seattle Mariners averaged a 13.2 rating in 2002.

The Royals’ average rating jumped from 6.7 last season.

The highest rated game on Fox Sports Kansas City this season was April 26, in Chicago against the White Sox. The Royals lost that game, 5-3, but the highlight was left fielder Alex Gordon leaping into the seats to make a catch.

The most-watched moment of the season occurred on Sept. 24, the night the Royals clinched the American League Central Division. Viewing peaked in the ninth inning with a 23.1 rating. Some 213,000 households were tuning in.

The Royals were the most-watched program on any network in Kansas City during the season, finishing first in the ratings 121 of the 149 dates when games were televised by FSKC.

The Royals’ contract with FSKC, worth $20 million annually and one of the lowest TV payouts in baseball, expires after the 2019 season.
