Disaster struck the Royals on Wednesday in the top of the sixth inning of their game against Cleveland when the Indians’ Jason Kipnis sent a 2-1 drive to left field that kept carrying.
Alex Gordon retreated, turned and reached for ball — but missed — and fell back into the wall. His head struck a padded post.

Gordon remained on the ground as Kipnis circled the bases for an inside-the-park homer, giving the Indians a 3-1 lead.
As the crowd of 28,534 quieted, trainer Nick Kenney and manager Ned Yost joined teammates who crowded around a dazed Gordon, who barely moved.
Eventually, Gordon walked slowly from the field, accompanied by Kenney.
The Royals later said Gordon had suffered a possible concussion and a bruised hip.
He will be evaluated further today.
