The Royals are the latest team to join the Major League Baseball trend of offering a “Ballpark Pass.”
For $99, the Royals’ “Summer Ballpark Pass” allows fans access to all 30 games at Kauffman Stadium from May 29 to July 23. Fans must have the MLB.com Ballpark app on their phone (no tablets). Fans can buy the pass anywhere with an Internet connection, but they must have an iPhone or Android phone with the app, because that’s how the tickets will be delivered — there are no hard tickets.
The tickets for the 30 games are guaranteed for standing room only, but the Royals say a fan, once in the stadium, may upgrade their standing-room-only ticket to a seat depending on availability.
Other major-league teams offer similar packages. For instance, the Cardinals’ “Ballpark Pass” gives fans a mobile ticket to any home game for $29.99 per month. The Marlins offered a mobile ticket to 20 selected home games in April, May and June for $199. The Astros’ deal is access to all weekday home games in May for $59.
