High school basketball is set to embark on four rule changes for the 2014-15 season.
A year after the NCAA emphasized the elimination of excessive contact on ball-handlers, high school basketball will enact the same amendment to its rules, the National Federation of State High School Associations announced Monday. As a result, fouls will be called for hand-checks, arm bars and placing two hands on a ball-handler.
Another new NFHS rule will allow players to move immediately upon the release of a free throw rather than waiting until the ball reaches the rim.
The association further expanded its definition of an intentional foul to include excessive contact during live play. This will include contact with the elbow.
Finally, the NFHS announced that players will now be permitted to wear leg and arm sleeves, as long as they meet the color and logo restrictions.
