Pribyl named national girls soccer coach of the year

After leading both the boys and girls soccer teams to Kansas class 6A state championships this season, Blue Valley Northwest head coach Rick Pribyl was named the 2013 Girls’ High School National Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches of America Association.

“Winning this award is not about me,” Pribyl said in a news release. “It is about the players, their parents, our school, our administrators, and especially our assistant coaches Brian Murphy, Pete Malle, Elizabeth O’Brien and Jon Ohlde. I am merely ‘standing on the shoulders of giants.’ ”

Pribyl has been the head coach of the boys and girls programs since the school opened in 1993 and has helped the Huskies to four state championships in his time there, including a boys title in 2006, girls in 2011 and the two titles this season.

Prior to taking over at Blue Valley Northwest, Pribyl coached at Blue Valley North where he won a state championship with the boys soccer team in 1992.

“Rick is without question deserving of this honor and epitomizes all the qualities of a great coach and human being,” Blue Valley Northwest athletic director Steve Harms said.
