Blue Valley West is Kansas high school football team of the week

A new feature hits the Varsity Zone blog today.

I’ll be selecting a Kansas high school football team of the week for the 913 coverage area.

This week’s pick is Blue Valley West. To nominate a school for team of the week, shoot me an email or a tweet by the end of the day on Saturday.

The Jaguars are experienced and talented, and it showed last Thursday. Blue Valley West defeated Lawrence 37-13 with three passing touchdowns from new quarterback Zev Mallin. After a scoreless first quarter, he connected with Luke Curtis and Mark Collins in the second quarter. Then, he added another to Blaise Gammon in the third. The other two touchdowns came from Sam Daily’s fumble recovery and a 45-yard run by Tyler Cox.

Blue Valley West will have a quick turnaround, as it travels down the road to face rival Blue Valley at 7 p.m. Friday. The Tigers knocked the Jaguars out of the Kansas Class 5A playoffs and won the state title last season.
