Defending Kansas Class 6A girls golf champion Shawnee Mission East hasn’t slowed down this season. The team finished with a clean sweep of the top five individual scores in Monday’s regional tournament at Deer Creek Golf Club.
The sweep propelled SM East to a runaway team victory, with an overall score of 326.
Jessica Parker took first overall, with a round of 7-over 79.
Tied at 82 after 18 holes, teammates Riley Ricket and Marti Fromm went to a playoff for second and third place, with Ricket coming out on top.
SM East’s Teagan Noblit (83) and Karoline Nelson (87) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Blue Valley North, buoyed by Grace Fain’s sixth-place score of 92, was second overall as a team at 397.
Olathe Northwest captures regional
In the Class 6A regional at Heritage Park, Olathe Northwest used a first-place finish from Rosalyn Klausner, who shot an 80, to take first overall as a team at 356.
That was only 5 strokes better than second-place Blue Valley West, whose top finisher, Molly Saporito, won a playoff for third-place after shooting an 85.
St. James Academy’s Klemp finishes in first
St. James Academy’s Caroline Klemp won her Class 5A regional at Lake Quivira Country Club, shooting a 74. Her team finished third overall (365) behind Mill Valley (355) and St. Thomas Aquinas (357).
Mill Valley’s Bella Hadden was the individual runner-up, with a 78, and Aquinas’ Tatum King finished in third place with an 80.
