UMKC has its second men's basketball signee for the 2018-19 season. Coach Kareem Richardson said Wednesday that Rob Whitfield, a transfer from Hutchinson Community College, has joined the Kangaroos.
Whitfield, a 6-4 guard from Raleigh, N.C., started his career at Division II Queens College in North Carolina before transferring to Hutchinson, where he averaged eight points, 3.5 rebounds and shot 38.5 percent on threes for the Blue Dragons.
Whitfield joins Kenny Strawbridge, a 6-4 guard from Rockford, Ill., in the new class. After missing most of his junior season because of a knee injury, Strawbridge averaged 26.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists at Lutheran High last season.
UMKC finished 10-22 in 2017-18 and 5-9 in the WAC.
