For the first time this season, the UMKC Kangaroos have a three-game winning streak.
UMKC beat Chicago State 76-67 on Wednesday, the Roos’ Senior Night, at Municipal Auditorium.
Chicago State lost its 22nd straight game and is now 2-26 overall and 0-11 in the WAC.
Still, this one was not easy for the Kangaroos.
UMKC had a 39-23 lead at half, but Chicago State came out on a blaze of fire to start the second half. The Cougars sliced through UMKC’s lead and took a lead of their own at 45-43 on a layup with about 14 minutes left. Chicago State got that margin to as high as 50-45.
But the Kangaroos were able to right the ship and establish enough control down the stretch to garner the victory. Jordan Giles and and Brandon McKissick each scored 17 points for UMKC, which improved to 9-19 on the season and 4-7 in the WAC.
Senior Broderick Robinson finished with nine points, on three three-pointers, and also pulled down six rebounds and added three assists for UMKC.
UMKC, which has been outrebounded in almost every game this season, won that fight on Thursday night with a 29-26 advantage.
Next up for the Kangaroos is a road game on Thursday at Texas Rio Grande Valley, which beat UMKC 73-61 on Jan. 6.
